Expert-in-the-field tools

In order to support experts in the field, the project develops tools to connect MS Word documents with reference structures. Next to that the project will provide a web-based text editor with the ability to link to reference structures.

Editorial boards typically use a content management system (CMS) to create content, to add this content to the website structure in the shape of a web page and to create links with reference structures. Most CMS's are rather heavy applications and require a strict regime of user rights. For this reason, CMS's are ofen unsuitable if a large number of third parties contribute content. However, this is often required in actual practice.

For such scenarios, the RNA-project experiments with 'create-and-link tools', light and easily deployable applications for creating content and linking it to reference structures. Two options are elaborated.

  • Editors are able to create content in a standard text editor such as Word. From the text editor, editors can add metadata to their work and link it to reference structures.
  • Using a content editor, editors can directly add content to websites and link it to reference structures. The content editor is a light online application that can be used independently of the CMS.
